The Luciano Marcolino Story

Christchurch's Coffee Champion

Luciano is synonymous with coffee; not just in Christchurch, but across New Zealand’s coffee community too. Hailing originally from Brazil, that’s no surprise really.

Luciano, along with Kiwi wife Melissa and their young family, came to Christchurch in 1998 and instantly knew it was the place they wanted to call home. They soon founded Luciano Espresso Bar, which was originally located a little further down Moorhouse at the old Hunter Furniture building. News of Luciano’s barista skills soon spread through the City as more and more people came to enjoy their daily or twice-daily brews from his handiwork.

During this time Luciano also racked up many awards for his legendary skills; winning the mantle of NZ Barista Champion no less than three times, and making the Top 10 in the world champion competition twice!

The Canterbury Earthquakes forced the cafe to close for an extended period of time while the city licked its wounds, but then reopened in its current location at 76 Moorhouse Avenue.

The team at Luciano Espresso Bar, under Luciano’s guidance, pride themselves on delivering only the very best coffee experience. Along with that, a passionate Chef and kitchen team bring out the best snack and plated food for miles around, satisfying you for breakfast, brunch, lunch and afternoon teatime.
